Is it worth the money to invest in a pasta making machine and if so- which do you recommend?

That depends on how often you make pasta I would say I hadn't I had one for years probably 25 years and it's a hand crank Imperia. It works great, but I wasn't making pasta so I gave it to my children my daughter and my grandsons who love to make pasta and they use it I would. Search for reviews of different pasta machines and see what other people are saying within your price range. I know my KitchenAid stand mixer has an attachment for pop for pasta there. There are a lot. So if you make a lot of pasta you might want to make you might want to and then again, you might not.
