Question:

Is there specific information on how to cook tofu in the FOK course?

— Debbie Flurkey

Answer:

There are, um, a few different examples of the, of how to cook tofu, um, in the forks of our knives course and specifically we do a baking one. We do one how to do a dessert out of it as well, and you'll see it kind of riddled throughout the entire course as well. Now, um, I think that the, the main thing for this is to be able to look, um, at a couple different ways to be able to cook tofu, to be able to make it, um, edible. Uh, you know, a lot of people don't like the, um, the flavor of tofu, um, but that's actually something that, um, you know, you want to try a little bit outside of that realm because nobody usually eats tofu, just kind of raw on its own. There are a couple Japanese dishes that do it, but it's usually served the broth over the top. The great thing about tofu is it absorbs flavor a lot, so you can add all kinds of different flavors, marinades and stuff like that to be able to make it taste all kinds of different ways. And texture wise, there's a lot of different things you can make it to alter the texture. Um, just in itself when you're buying it from the store, you can buy a silken variety, which is very, very, um, you know, like if you tried to hold it in your hand, it would almost fall through your fingers to firm or extra firm that, um, are very firm indeed. Um, you can actually take, just take a regular firm one and put it in the freezer, and then after you take it out, it'll act a little bit differently where you can almost pull it apart, um, almost like chicken or something like that as well too. Um, now there are all kinds of different ways to cook it. Uh, one of our favorites is definitely baking it. I personally do it, um, myself baking, um, very regularly for my family. We enjoy it in all kinds of different ways. Um, you can also do a saute on it, um, as well, but specifically in the forks of our knives, we do show you a couple different versions of how to be able to use tofu to make it quite edible and enjoyable.
