Question:

I have a collections of cookbooks for the Standard American Diet style of cooking. Having switched to whole food plant based cooking, should I try to figure out a way to convert recipes?

— Nancy Johnson-Cramer

Answer:

It's kind of a fun question, but it's also just a very personal one. I think that, um, you know, on one hand, a person could easily, uh, just, you know, donate all those old cookbooks to your local library or their, their fundraising arm, uh, and then, um, you know, maybe, uh, go out and, and, uh, buy one or two plant-based cookbooks that you enjoy, or start out by borrowing some from the library to discover, uh, what it is that you might add to your own library at home. Okay? Um, but, uh, if you feel like tinkering and doing a lot of experimenting, uh, then hang onto 'em and, uh, try to convert some of those, uh, old favorites that you have, you know, into plant-based, um, uh, recipes. Keeping in mind, as I mentioned earlier in today's program, that when we make any changes to a recipe, we should reasonably expect the finished product to be different. Uh, and, uh, so that, that's gonna be color, it's gonna be smell, it's gonna be texture, you know, it's gonna be, um, uh, you know, all these aspects of food okay. That, uh, had the potential to change. Um, and, but, uh, take it either way, you know? Um, I think either way could be, uh, uh, quite fulfilling. All right.
