Question:
I'm actually in a region where sambal oelek is not available, the thai chili sauce recommended in the stir fry course. Any suggested substitute (chinese - korean - etc) ?
— ingrid ortega
Answer:
You know, samba is, um, it, it's, uh, it's just a, it's a general chili paste. It's got some coarseness to it, uh, at least the products that I use. So, you know, feel free to find something in your area that resembles, um, a chili sauce. And, um, uh, you can always make your own as well. Look at the ingredients of samal, which will have a little bit of vinegar, a little bit of sugar, a little bit of salt, along with chilies. Um, and, uh, you know, go, go forth. But, um, certainly take a look at what is in your area, uh, and you're bound to find some sort of a substitute that's, uh, pretty close. In other words, a chili sauce, um, that'll be satisfying for you.
