Question:

How do you do the Paper Test to test a knifes sharpness?

— Yvonne Procuniar

Answer:

You basically just take a paper like this and you should be able to take your knife and it should cut cleanly right through the paper if you take it on the edge of it and just kind of go right through it. So if this is a sheet of paper, it should be able to take my knife and hit the top and drag it all the way through the bottom kind of quickly as you go through. And it should cut very cleanly through that. If it snags or gets kind of like jagged like that, that means the knife is not as sharp as it could be. So that's the paper test for knives. It's not always the go-to, but it is a way to be able to tell how sharp your knife is. Um, and a lot of knife makers will use that to show how sharp the blade is as well. Um, and a lot of people know like if they, if their knives need to be sharpened to be able to use that test as well.
