Question:

Is there an issue with soy? In the FOK course the section on soy recommends limiting intake. Does that include soy milk?
— Kim Cook
Answer:
The debate I think is a little open on this now. Um, you know, there are people that will say there's pointing towards studies that, um, soy can affect estrogen levels. That's to be debated highly actually. Um, I do know people that will, uh, you know, stay away from soy just because, um, a conventional soy product compared to organic soy is typically highly treated. It's a genetically modified food that's sprayed with pesticides that are made specifically for that genetically modified food. So I know a lot of people will avoid conventional soy versus organic soy. Now that does include soy milk as well. Um, so I think if you're enjoying soy, which we do quite often, we have tofu very often and we'll use soy milk, uh, well usually almond milk, but sometimes soy milk in like our oats in the morning and stuff like that. Um, we'll just make sure to buy organic instead of a conventional product that includes the soy milk I buy organic tofu, all those kinds of things as well, just to be able to avoid those pesticides. So yeah, the debate is out a little bit on soy, but if you're buying organic, you don't have to worry about all the things that kind of come with that, the estrogen part of, you know, if you're eating lots and lots and lots of soy, you might have to worry about that, but on the day, normal consumption, you don't really have to worry about it as much.
