Question:
Can you tell us about Dr. Funk and sugar alternatives?
— Fran Costigan
Answer:
A number of years ago, Dr. Funk started doing some new research and decided discovered that plant-based diet was protective. The reason that I put this here is that there is, there is some new news, let's call it new news, but I actually call it no news to me because I've been saying this forever. Anybody who's interested in taking a deep dive into why I don't use what are called non sugar sugars, those are erythritol and allulose. And so all those sugar alcohols, they're highly processed. Dr. Gregor, who many of us respect and with good reason, really was a proponent of using erythritol. And he has pulled that back. You know, if something's too good to be true, it's not true. So I saw this a co in a couple of places in the last few days from Dr. Funk, and I'm gonna read it to you. And of course I am not a doctor. This is up to you. Do your homework, do some research. Chris, Dr. Christie Funk says, just one tiny package of sucralose like Splenda can disrupt your gut microbiome. So since so severely that it may double or triple the risk of poor survival in advanced melanoma and lung cancer patients on immunotherapy, if you or someone you love is, um, on immune checkpoint inhibitors, it's time to cut out all artificial sweeteners including sucralose. So I would say, you know, if someone says, well, people over the age of or below the age of shouldn't have this, I take that to say I'm not having it. And in terms of erythritol, one recent Cleveland clinic study involving 4,000 people in the US and Europe found that men and women with higher circulating levels of erythritol were significantly more likely to have a heart attack or stroke within the next three years. So I offer this to you and I say, if you're interested, do some work, do some research and decide what you think.
