Jackfruit looks very difficult to work with. Is it?
Answer
Well, I get my jackfruit at an Asian market called H-Mart. It is the largest Asian grocery store in the world, and they have everything that you could ever want, and they sell it in wedges. So two things that you have to do when you work with it is you have to wear rubber gloves because it can be very, very sticky. And I don't use a knife at first because I want to take the pods out. So I do that manually with my hands with my gloves on. And then when it is time to use a knife, if you want to use a knife, I take that spray oil, and I spray the knife so that it will cut easier and the knife will glide through. And I also don't use a good knife because I want to preserve them for other things. So I will use, and people have heard me speak about them, the Victoria knives that we use on the Charlie Cart because they cut really, really well. So I think if you're going to make it into a recipe, I think making a jackfruit chili is really good, beans, lentils, et cetera. And when I do use it, I like to saute it in onions and garlic first so that it has more flavor when it's used. Jackfruit is considered to be the food that could save world hunger because it has so much nutrient value to it, and it's so readily available in many countries. So I hope that helps them.
