I'd like to know your method of making waffles in a waffle iron without adding oil. Is that possible?
Answer
So I have many waffle irons, and I mostly use them to grill things like eggplant or tofu or other things like that. So here's what I do. I heat it as high on heat as it can be. And then I cut two pieces of parchment paper to exactly the size of the base and the top of the waffle iron. And I put one piece down, and then I put the batter on, and then I cover it with more parchment paper, and then I slice it down. And then I will take, I have what I call a kitchen brick, which is a brick, excuse me, that is covered in aluminum foil so I know that it's not to hold the front door open. And that adds a little weight, and then bingo bango, when that light goes on that says your waffle is done, they're done. So there you have it. That's what I do. And I know some people will use those iron sprays and registered dietician, Jeff Novick, is a really good friend of mine. And his was one of the first plant-based cooking classes I ever went to, and he used to say that people use those spray oils more like hairspray than it was a kitchen "ingredient." And if you read the label, it says that there are 360 servings for a one-quarter of a second spray. And his fear is that most people will use it like hairspray, so avoid that.
