Any suggestions on how to stop the discoloration of food when using an inexpensive expandable steamer basket? The food that rests on the basket turns gray.

So the thing that I do is to use some sort of a leafy item, you know, like a piece of cabbage or lettuce as an underliner and I will sacrifice that item by then putting the the main item to be cooked on top of that. All right. Thank you.
