New platform helps educators raise a new generation with advanced understanding of cooking, nutrition, local sourcing and reducing food waste
Rouxbe, the world’s leading online culinary school, recently introduced an updated platform designed to bring a modern approach to cooking courses in high schools across the country. The new offering is an expanded, more accessible, and innovative version of what Rouxbe has provided hundreds of high schools to-date with great success. As of today, any educator can use the online culinary instruction to complement their existing classroom curriculum or provide courses school-wide as an extended learning opportunity. The cost is just $399.99 a year per school.
Rouxbe’s high school program aims to help educators raise a new generation of cooks who are confident in their skills and well-versed in the language of cooking, nutrition, local sourcing, reducing food waste and more. While this is all beneficial for the home cook, the program also serves to prepare students for a potential career in the culinary arts, from working as a line cook or kitchen staffer to the first stages of becoming an executive chef or food industry business owner.
“We are offering high schools the opportunity to teach students to make smarter, healthier food choices in the long-term,” said Ken Rubin, Chief Culinary Officer at Rouxbe. “Cooking classes also open up many culinary career opportunities upon graduation and are a powerful means to help students succeed not just in school, but also in life.”
The Rouxbe curriculum for high schools is comprised of 12 courses, 75 lessons and hundreds of recipes that are part of traditional professional cooking school material. The courses also teach nutrition and dietary concepts that meet the demands of today’s health-conscious individuals.
Once teachers sign up, they simply invite students in their class to register via their email address. Teachers can also access extended licenses to include additional staff and students, at no additional cost. The lead teacher will have immediate access to the full curriculum to share during class hours or to assign to students to work on lessons on their own. Student progress can be tracked at the email address level, allowing schools to monitor their students’ progress in real-time through the administrator’s dashboard.
“We’ve been using Rouxbe in our classroom for two years now, and the benefits to my students have been incredible,” said Gene Fritz, teacher at Battle Ground High School. “The online platform makes it easy to assess the curriculum in and out of the classroom, and the dashboard that keeps track of each student’s progress is streamlined and efficient. Rouxbe has truly changed the way we are able to teach the culinary arts, with many students using what they learn to secure jobs both while still in school and once they graduate.”
The team of chef instructors and support staff are available to assist students and teachers throughout their culinary journey. Reports can be generated on-demand, indicating student and class engagement, course completions and evaluations.
Rouxbe is recognized by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation as a quality program, and by WorldChefs as Approved Quality Culinary Training.
