Question:

How did you navigate your trip to Italy, in regard to you not eating the oils & extra salts without offending others, to keep the social time pleasant and positive?

Answer:

That is the best question. And before I went, I had this, you know, this is what I'm going to eat. But then I realized after being there for about 20 minutes, that the olive oil culture was such a big part of who this family had been for the last 400 years. So I ate everything, but I navigated my plate very, very well, and that worked out perfectly. Um, I did ask them to use less salt, and they were fine with that. So I think, uh, you know, I was in the Peace Corps, so, uh, it kind of reminded me of being on Anastasio, uh, in, in Brazil where you embrace the culture and you honor what people do. And, um, I just learned to work around it and ate a lot of greens. So, uh, that's a very sensitive, uh, question, Cynthia, and I appreciate your, um, asking that. But, you know, we make the best of what we have to do. So, um, there were some things that I did not eat. Uh, I would just say, you know, uh, no thank you in my most polite Italian.
