"This is one really good ham recipe. My family loves it. I am required to cook this every year at Pascha,(Easter). It takes a little preparation but it is worth it. Enjoy!"

Chef's notes

* 1 12 pound Missouri bone in ham. (Any good ham will do). * whole cloves * 1 quart of cold water * 1 cup of cider vinegar * 1 cup of black molasses * 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce * 1 cup of apple cider * 1/2 teaspoon of fresh thyme or 1/4 teaspoon of dried leaves Directions 1. Scrub the ham thoroughly and soak it for 24 hours in cold water. 2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. 3. Remove the skin with a thin, sharp knife removing as little of the fat as possible. 4. Stick cloves 1//2 inch apart all over the fat side. 5. Place in a large roasting pan with 1 quart of cold water, the vinegar, molasses, Worcestershire, cider and thyme. 6. Cover the roaster and bake for 2 hours. 7. Lower the heat to 300 degrees F and continue cooking for another 2 1/2 hours. 8. Remove the cover bake 30 minutes longer uncovered. 9. Take from the oven and allow to cool with the cover on. 10. Serves 12 to 16.

Find and prepare your ingredients so they are readily at hand when you begin to cook the ham.

Remove the skin from the ham with a sharp thin knife. Remove as little of the fat as possible.

Stick cloves 1//2 inch apart all over the fat side.

Ingredients

  • Cold Water
  • Vinegar
  • Molasses
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Apple Cider
Place the ham in a large roasting pan with 1 quart of cold water, the vinegar, molasses, Worcestershire, cider and thyme.

Cover the roaster and bake for 2 hours at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

After the first 2 hours is over, lower the heat to 300 degrees Fahrenheit and continue cooking for another 2 1/2 hours.Still covered with the lid on.

Take from the oven and allow to cool with the cover on. Serve with sweet potato casserole, sauteed asparagus with carrots,macaroni and cheese or whatever you like. Enjoy.
