Very sweet and very simple, this basic glaze is used on coffeecakes, sweet rolls, donuts and cookies. The following recipe makes a thick glaze. Thin as desired or thicken further with more sugar.
Steps
1
Making the Icing
Ingredients
1 ½ cups confectioners’ sugar, sifted
2 tbsp any plant milk, or juice, more as needed to adjust consistency
3/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
⅛ tsp almond extract, a few drops of culinary oils, such as mint, citrus, (optional)
Place the confectioners’s sugar into a medium mixing bowl. Add the liquid and vanilla, Using a rubber spatula, stir for a few minutes or until the sugar has dissolved and the glaze is smooth and shiny. The final consistency will be quite thick.
If desired, additional extract, oils. or natural food colorings can be added to change the flavor and color of the icing. Another option would be to add 2 teaspoons of Dutch cocoa powder to the sugar before the liquid is added. In this case, you may need another teaspoon or so of additional liquid.
